| Holter and Event Monitors
Holter Monitoring Description: A Holter monitor is a heart monitor that records your heart rhythm. It is most frequently ordered to evaluate symptoms of palpitations, slow or fast heart rate and fainting spells. Procedure: Four electrodes will be placed on your chest that attach lead wires to a recorder that is the size of a pager. Preparation: Clean and dry skin with no oils or lotions. After the test: The recorder information is downloaded onto a computer and scanned. The information is sent to your physician who will then give you the results. Event Monitoring (King of Hearts): Description: With this monitoring you will be wearing a monitor for two to 4 weeks. This monitor can be removed for periods of time to shower or sleep. You will have a button to press when you feel your symptoms. That "event" will then be phoned in by you to a computer where it will be evaluated. Procedure: You will be given an appointment time to come in and get instructions on putting the monitor on and off and sending recordings. Preparation: Wear a two piece outfit that buttons down the front. After the test: After the monitor is returned, printouts of the recordings will be sent to your physician. He/she will give you the results. |
